Sen. Joe Biden in Iowa - by Julie Zimmer, BEAT Hunger '08 activist
I saw Joe Biden in Vinton, Iowa (pop. 5,000) last week and asked him what we could do to ensure that we keep our promise to the world in the form of the MDGs (Millennium Development Goals).
He said, “elect me” and he explained the urgency of funding development aid to the small crowd of people in the parlor and dining room of a local B&B. He talked about development aid as the right thing to do, and also as the pragmatic thing to do to ensure our own security. He was knowledgeable and articulate.
This is the second time I’ve seen him in person here in Vinton. He has a consistent message on Bread for the World and ONE issues and has grown more passionate rather than less interested over the months he has been campaigning. He recognized the white wrist band, which may be why he called on me for the first question and spent precious time answering it before he had to leave for his next engagement.
