Prayers for Our Diplomats and Development Workers
Bread for the World offers its prayers and condolences to the families of U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and the three other officials who were killed in an attack in Benghazi, Libya on Tuesday.
This loss of lives is a reminder of the dangers that diplomatic and development workers face daily. It also underscores the importance of their work—and the need for us to support our country’s foreign assistance. Diplomats and development workers are key to our efforts to empower people, stabilize communities, and head off future conflicts.
However, as U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton noted, “There is no justification for this. None. Violence like this is no way to honor religion or faith, and as long as there are those who would take innocent life in the name of God, the world will never know a true and lasting peace.”
Stevens is the first U.S. ambassador to be killed in the line of duty since 1988. Three other officials were wounded.
We continue to pray for all our Foreign Service officers, aid workers, and their families.
